C Sr. Alta CSSJs at Coeur de Marie mar2017Would you like to join us on our 3rd annual C/SSJ immersion trip to Haiti? This opportunity has grown out of the desire that our Federation Justice and Peace Team had to respond to the devastation brought about by Haiti’s earthquake in 2010. The question that arose in their hearts at that time was a simple one, “What can we do as a Federation to respond to Haiti’s tremendous need? Is there something that we can do that would make a difference in the lives of the Haitian people?” They developed a plan that involved the assurance of a complete education of 10 Haitian girls from elementary through secondary and even beyond. This education project started when these girls were in Year 1 (equivalent to 1st grade). They are now in Years 4 and 5. During our immersion trip we will have a chance to meet these girls and see the elementary school, Annunciation School, (Years 1 through 6) they attend in Leogane, Haiti. We will also visit the College Coeur de Marie (secondary, Years 7 through 13), also in Leogane. This building to be dedicated this month replaces the secondary school administered by the Companions of Jesus that was destroyed by the 2010 earthquake. Without the help of a number of contributors, including various congregations of St. Joseph, this school would not be in existence to educate these students. In addition to the sponsored schools that are assisted Mission Haiti, Inc., we will see other not sponsored. We will see firsthand how much sponsorship means.

During our immersion week we will experience other parts of Haiti and some of the many ministries that serve the Haitian people. We begin and end each day with prayer and a sharing how our hearts are touched while we spend time with the people in their hardships as well as their joy and hope. To learn more about this opportunity I invite you to visit the homepage for Mission Haiti, Inc: http://www.missionhaitiinc.org/. Click on the short YouTube that will show you a lot about Mission Haiti. Under the “Trips” you’ll find specific information about the C/SSJ trip and how to register.

If you have interest in joining us, I’d love to hear from you very soon!
